Rolly polly fish heads...

My tanker truck.

Normally when I shop for my groceries at the Seafood City Market -- 25 miles away -- I bring a tanker truck. Well, not really a tanker truck, that's an exaggeration, but I and my husband, buy a lot since we drive that far for our supply. We get a lot of seafood like bangus, pompano, tilapia, shrimps, catfish, and etc. Last weekend, however, we stayed away from tilapia, shrimps and catfish as most of these come from China. Although the importation of these (from China) have already been blocked by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) we'd rather not get any. It's best to be safe than eat fish loaded with whatever they found in those seafood. Click here and here for more.

"My trip is canceled?"

Now all seafood at the store were marked the country of origin; wild caught or farm raised. I never knew before that they come from countries like Vietnam, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Indonesia, India, Singapore, Philippines and Taiwan. Some are US products. Mussels that I usually get come from New Zealand marked clearly on the package.

I wandered to the dry goods area to get a pack of Shiitake mushrooms (dried), and lo and behold, it's from...you know...and all brands. I'm not sure about it anymore, so I passed it. I'm not going to use any Shiitake for now.

The veggies I supposed are mostly local. If not it probably did not come from that far. There were some things I bought that were Philippine products...jars of halo-halo mix - kaong, makapuno, munggo beans, white beans and langka.

Halo-halo would be great to cool us off these hot...hot summer days.

hi mari,

sigi, have a nice day there....thanks for your comments and visit too....

bye, and god bless.....

tutubi,

Yes, longing for that special halo-halo at the Quinta Market in Quiapo. Hmmm...they top theirs with a spoon of leche flan. (drooling here)

Thanks for flying by my blog, it sure is appreciated.

Mari said...

nini,

Gosh, thanks. Just a rough sketch using markers...so easy to handle - not messy.

You are right. They have local tilapia from Louisiana and/or Texas and the price!!!! $2.49/lb. Maybe, I should turn my spa into a tilapia farm. LOL

We'll have to be extra careful on what to buy and eat nowadays.

Thanks so much for your comment.

vicki,
He he he

It used to be the other way around.

Something good will come out of this. These countries, esp. China, who's the biggest exported of seafood, will try their best to follow the FDA's guidelines so they will regain their lost market.

Take care.

Mari said...

vicki,
PS. Yes, you're right. The air we breathe is polluted; the water we drink; and the food we eat. Ano na nga? Kasalanan din natin yan. Some of us doesn't care as long as we make money. Di ba?

Thanks again for coming.

Mari said...

nancy,
"Don't eat those," sabi niya. Yun bang champoy sa atin.

Thanks for your visit, and comment.

ups, pahabol....I would like to comment in your drawings....they're good. very good *wink*

Mari said...

pepe,
You like my truck? LOL

Happy a nice weekend.

Mari said...

razzy,
China will lose a lot of business for all these. It is, however, one way for them, and other countries to deliver untainted products.

Thanks for your comment.

Mari said...

nona,
Well, you'll find something.

Salamat sa pahabol. ;-)

What a great work of art Mari! you are so talented! My hat's off to that.

I love your drawings..hmmm..bakit sa lahat ng talent yan ang wala talaga ako!?kahit dahon i swear, hirap akong mag sketch!waahhhh!

Its normal that when you're far from your homeland esp. Phils. you would really miss products that are purely ours lang.

Mari said...

ev,
Gee, thanks.

I can't carry a tune. LOL...wala talaga, disintunado ako.

Yeah, I miss some of our food - fruits, seafood and veggies.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hay... Better stay away from products coming from that country na nga muna.

Nagbasa ako nang nagbasa while sick hehe

Have a nice day, Mari!

Mari said...

sashy,
Yeah, products from China are scary, and we'd all better stay away from them for now.

I hope you're feeling much much better.

Thanks for your visit. Muah!
