...And The Next Day

I got out of bed a bit later than yesterday (Tuesday) morning; had a very light breakfast of raisin bread toast, again. Didn't have coffee as it is a diuretic and I don't want to make a lot of trips to the bathroom. Traffic was lighter at this time of day, 9:00 AM. I got there about 9:30. I went straight to the 3rd floor. There were about 5 people there already waiting at the corridor. There was one of the ladies I was talking to yesterday and I sat by her. By 10:15, the time we were all to be there, the corridor was full of jurors already. We were all wearing our badges...and were waiting...and waiting again. By 10:30 the court clerk came out of the courtroom and talked to us. There is negotiation going on, he said. And we still have to wait for a few more minutes. So, we waited again, passing the time away by chatting with other prospective jurors. By 11:00 he came out again. They have reached a common ground - a plea bargain. We are no longer needed...we are free. Yippeeeee!!!! He called each our juror numbers, to make sure all were in attendance, and we were to go back down to the jury assembly room. So, we filed to the elevator down to the assembly room once more. We surrendered our badges, and we waited again until a staff came out with some papers. She explained that these papers were certification of our presence in court. We are to present one copy to our employer, for those who are employed, and one copy we keep. It is good for 12 months; we are not to be summoned to court again until after 12 months is over. But in case they do, we are to present them our copy of the certificate.

The first guy who was called to get his certificate was so happy he jumped to his feet and ran to get his paper. We all applauded him. Everyone was in good spirit already. And why not?...we are now free to go. No one there wanted to go back to work the rest of the day. There is still half of the day to play truant. They are paid by the company they work for just the same, why bother. Everyone went home happy.

Hi Mari! I just posted my latest blog, it's about being in Paradise. You made me smile. Your blog is just the opposite of mine. Jury Duty sounds like being in Hell, huh?

Paradise, ebb? I was just there laying on my hammock in my backyard. LOL Geez, I don't know, if you can call it hell. The defendant could be the one in hell. I'm sure he or she did something wrong and will pay for it by being locked up in... a hell of a jail. LOL

kneeko, I'm glad you took time from your busy schedule to visit my blog. Keep up the good work.

Thanks.

pepe, I'm glad we agree on that issue.

Thanks for coming.

nancy, dudette, how is it going? I'm happy to see you here.

Seems I'm the only one who has not served as a juror yet. My husband had done it twice, but he hasn't been called since and that was in the late 80s then.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and yes, see you sa kabilang bangir.

You know what i suspect is the cause of all these extinctions, it's in-breeding....! It alters the genetics and cause problems to the body.... Normally territorial animals does this since they have no access to the other groups so they breed amongst themselves, possible....? Brothers to sisters, daughters to fathers, mothers to sons.... Could be one possible reasons.... Meaning, natural way....! They are really destined to go....! Oh no....! =(

ypnmthat's good news Mari!

If ever I'll be an immigrant ;;) I don't know if I'll be as happy as before if I'll be selected to serve on a jury :)

anyways, I'm curious about the case. Do you know what the case was all about?

sasha, a big sigh of relief for everyone. Talaga.

You have a nice day, yourself.

cat, it's great news for everyone.

It will take time before you are called to serve jury. First requirement is citizenship...so that'll be 5 years after setting foot here. Then it will be a while after that. Your name will be randomly selected from the list of driver licenses and voters registration. Parang lottery. Kaya nga ako di nag-register para ligtas, kako, di pala. LOL

We have no idea what the case is about, maybe, they tell the jurors when actual trial begins.

I'm glad the subject had aroused your curiousity. Thanks for coming.

vicki, if I can hide I would...LOL, but it's not possible. Yes, we are free. Everyone had a big smile on their faces when they left, including me. Nakakatuwa nga.

That's a good site...plea bargain. I learned something from it myself, that there are 2 kinds of plea bargain. I thought there's just one.

Thanks for your comment.

I remember noong first time kong umattend ng hearing. I worked in financing company (at marami kaming naidemanda). Mas ninenerbyos pa ako kesa dun sa mga nakademanda.

Mari said...

ann, nakakatuwa ka, ikaw pa ang ninenerbiyos. Baka naman mas nerbiyos yung nakadimanda, di lang nagpapahalata sa iyo...o kapalmuks na. LOL

Salamat sa dalaw mo.

so that's one of the perks of a truant -- a day off from work?

but you needed it after the car incident earlier.

Opportunity knocked, sexy mom, so we grabbed it.

Yes, we all need that little break.

Thank you for your visit.
