We Gobbled The Turkey...and more.

My Thanksgiving Day little party went well, everyone came, except the one who was invited first. It was that invitation to her that made me thought of doing the party. She accepted the invitation right there and then; however, when I confirmed with her, she was not so sure she could make it. It will depend on her transportation, she said. I asked her to call me back whether she could make it or not. She never called. My husband was not happy. He said he would not ask her anymore to come to any of our gatherings.

Some of my guests came a little bit late. It was alright, we had a fun time. The food was okay. I'm not sure if they liked it, I didn't see them throw up; I didn't see them writhe in pain for ingesting my food. My older cousin brought "turon" which the Anglos loved; another guy brought bread with spinach dip inside its cavity. It was good, but I can't eat a lot of it as the sour cream in it upsets my stomach. Another guy brought pumpkin pie.

My turkey turned out good, it was moist. We almost devoured the whole thing. I gave some to my guests to take home, so I won't be left with so much turkey I would have to have it morning, noon and night. I made turkey soup for dinner last night; this morning I stir fried some then poured a little bit of gravy over it, fried a couple of eggs then toasted some bread and we had it for breakfast. No turkey for lunch. Tonight, however, I made turkey soup again...this will be the last of the turkey dinner. The leftover has to be consumed within 2 or 3 days, otherwise I'm going to freeze it.

The mad dash for Black Friday had come and gone. I find no reason to wake up so early and line up at a store to get bargains they have advertised. They opened as early as 5 AM, and I heard some have started opening at 4 AM. I once did go to Wal-Mart's 6 AM sale, and, my husband and I got there 15 minutes after it opened and parking was already full. The buying frenzy was already in full swing. Most of the discounted items were all sold out when we got in. We got a sewing machine for half the regular price, but that's about it. That was about 4 years ago. I've not gone to another one of these after holiday sale since.

During these holiday sales people just dash through the door as soon as it is opened and some, I heard, have been crushed to death. Yesterday I watched on TV as this was going on and someone was almost pinned on the ground. Lucky for that person a guy pulled her up to safety. I wonder why they have to rush in when they are already at the door. Why lose an arm and a leg or even life for saving a couple of hundred dollars?

I slept through Black Friday.

Mari,
ahhhh ... sigh of relief. As much as we like company, it is always a relief to go back to norm. I don't like after holiday sales either, too crowded and lines at check outs are too long... not me.

Mari,
this is probably a duplicate comment. anyway, as much as we like company it is always a relief to be back to norm. I don't like after holiday sales either, too crowded and I don't have patience waiting in line at check out register.

nance,
It sure is a relief. I was so tired I slept most of the day that Friday. I don't have the energy and eagerness anymore for these crowded madding holiday sales. It must be the sign of... growing...o*l*d. LOL

Thanks for dropping by.

glad to hear the party went great.. :)

when it is a sale expect lots of people.

even Jollibee has this one day promo the buy one take one thing.. and the line goes until outside. i think it was their stragey.. i tried to compute the value.. you'd only save a few peso. so much for the line.

Mari said...

Yeah, tina, sales are a come-on. It's one way to get people in the store, and they end up buying some that are not on sale. He he he...the store still wins.

Yes, it's good; and it doesn't seem Thanksgiving if it's not turkey.

;-D

pepe,
Wear loose clothes and drink lots of water to cool off. Watch out for heat stroke.

ghee,
Yeah, she didn't call, and didn't come. So, that's the end of that...no more invite for her. LOL

Thanks for dropping by.

vicki,

"We'll be running late," sabihin nila.

LOL

Your comments are a pleasure to read. Thanks for your visit.

he smile n says, Thank you daw.....

at yn URN sabi ko rin....hjeheheheh

Thnks ha? mostly sabi nila, masungit daw ang mukha ni bernie....sa tingin lang siguro, pero really, bernie is good at tahimik, walang gulo sa buhay.....basta mabuti lang ang gawain.....say lang siya kung mali or hindi tama.

oo nga, sila dito, tatawag talaga kung malate or what...meron sounds....pero sorry to say, mga pinay-noy, wala, mamula na lang ang mata natin, walang-wala...

ewan, bakit, walang respetar sa nag-invite nila or ewan.....

Oh nice to be back reading your blog, Mari. You know what, I've never tasted a Turkey in my life. Your post reminded me of Norman Rockwell's painting of Thanksgiving, with a large roasted Turkey as the main attraction.
I always wish we also have Thanksgiving in the Philippines. It would be a nice excuse to eat a fattened Turkey :)

nag turkey celebration din kami at work kasi my boss is an American.

I was sooo full...t'was really a thanksgiving!

Happy weekend Mari!

Pepe said...

Have a goodie weekend Mari....! I hope you'are having a great time....! =D

Mari said...

vicki,
MEN are usually quiet. Ako medyo tahimik pagbago palang kilala...akala nga suplada kasi mukhang matapang. >:-| Pero pagkilala na madaldal na.

Sabihin mo kay Bernie he's welcome. Salamat sa cookies kahit di ko natikman. LOL

Thanks for your visit.

dennis,
You know the first time I had turkey was in Muntinlupa, Phil. I was there with some friends and our host roasted a turkey. It was on a spit over a fire, just like roasting lechon. I was then in college.

Find a turkey there and get it ready for Christmas. That would be a treat for your whole family.

Thanks for your visit.

Mari said...

ev,
Wow! That was some treat for you.

Have a great weekend to you, too.

pepe,
It's raining and cold here. Aargh...I don't like cold weather. LOL

Have a nice weekend.
